The brief was to score a :60 NBA Playoffs spot that breaks away from “hype sports” language and instead recreates the quiet intensity of an athlete’s headspace-cerebral, sparse, and pressure-driven-leaving deliberate room for sound design and VO. We proposed a minimal, atmospheric hybrid score: piano as the emotional anchor, supported by restrained orchestral color and subtle electronic tension (low-end pressure, granular textures, modular/pizzicato-like pulses) to evoke inner monologue rather than spectacle.
Structurally, we built the cue to the film’s roadmap: an exposed SD-forward intro (stakes), a wide “void” section with maximal negative space, then a controlled crescendo and slight accelerando through the trophy build, before resolving into a final contemplative pocket with a single piano note and heartbeat-style pulse.
The result is a solemn, escalating bed that stays understated, transitions cleanly with editorial changes, and lands tension and inevitability without ever becoming a “dunk highlight” track.
